Eric Dane passed away at the age of fifty-three. Dane rose to fame in Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Mark Sloan, often known as McSteamy. Dane passed away ten months after he made his diagnosis of Lou Gehrig's disease, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), public.
The actor’s family confirms Eric Dane passed away on Thursday, February 19. Eric Dane’s family said in a statement, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce Eric Dane died Thursday afternoon after bravely fighting ALS.” His two adorable children, Georgia and Billie, were the center of his universe, and he spent his last days with them, together with his loyal wife and close friends.
As he battled ALS, Eric Dane developed a strong passion for raising awareness and advancing research because he wanted to help others who were struggling with the same illness. He will always be cherishedly remembered and sadly missed. Eric Dane loved his followers and will always be appreciative of their love and support. As they work through this challenging period, the family has requested privacy.
In 1972, Eric Dane was born in San Francisco. His father was shot and died when he was seven years old. After serving in the Navy, he went on to become an architect and interior designer. In 2014, Dane told Gulf Times, “He was a troubled soul.” He claimed that he was unaware of how “devastating” the loss must have been for him as a child until he became a parent himself.
He discovered acting inadvertently. After a brief season as a high school water polo player, I was cast as Joe Keller in All My Sons. Extremely serious. And it captured my heart. This is the best feeling ever, I thought, he told Gulf Times. He told in 2014 that he had “40 bucks in my pocket” when he moved to Los Angeles after graduation. He wed the actress Rebecca Gayheart in 2004. Georgia and Billie, their daughters, were born in 2010 and 2011, respectively. A leaked naked video of Dane, Gayheart, and another woman surfaced online in 2009. Having started taking painkillers following a sports injury, Dane, who was candid about his battles with depression, checked himself into a treatment facility two years later. Dane also starred in movies including Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Valentine’s Day, American Carnage, Burlesque, and Marley & Me. In 2018, Gayheart filed for divorce. But in March 2025, she sued to have the divorce thrown out. Dane’s daughters survive him.
