About Chip Kelly:
Charles Edward Kelly, often known as “Chip Kelly” is an American professional football coach who was born on November 25, 1963. His most recent role was that of offensive coordinator for the National Football League’s (NFL) Las Vegas Raiders.
After leading the Oregon Ducks to the 2011 BCS National Championship Game, he first gained notoriety as their head coach from 2009 to 2012.
He was offered the opportunity to coach in the NFL for four seasons, three with the Philadelphia Eagles (2013–2015) and one with the San Francisco 49ers (2016), as a result of his success at Oregon.
Chip Kelly left the NFL and returned to collegiate football in 2018. He coached at UCLA for six seasons before joining Ohio State as offensive coordinator in 2024. Kelly was fired as the Raiders’ offensive coordinator prior to the end of the 2025 campaign.
The Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, was fired on Sunday after the team’s 24–10 loss to the Cleveland Browns. After the loss, the Raiders’ current season record is 2–9.
Raiders coach Pete Carroll said in a statement, I spoke with Chip Kelly this evening and told him that we are releasing him from his duties as offensive coordinator for the Raiders. I would want to thank Chip for his help and wish him much success in the future.

Chip Kelly, 61, had held the role for less than a year. For the sixth time this season, the Raiders’ offense failed to score 20 points on Sunday. In their last three games, Las Vegas has only managed to score 7, 16, and 10 points.
Kelly was one of two assistant coaches sacked by the Raiders this season. After losing to Denver in Week 10, the team also fired former special teams coach Tom McMahon.
The Raiders’ performance on Sunday demonstrates their offensive problems this season.
Against the Browns, the Raiders gained just 268 yards total, converted just 4 of 17 third-down tries, and just once reached Cleveland’s 20-yard line. Ashton Jeanty, a first-round selection, only managed to gain 50 yards on 17 attempts, and Geno Smith, the quarterback, was sacked eight times.
Prior to Sunday’s game, the Raiders’ attack was ranked 30th in the NFL for scoring, 25th for passing, 30th for rushing, 30th for red-zone effectiveness, and 21st for third-down efficiency.
Kelly certainly takes some of the blame, but it’s true that the Raiders’ offense wasn’t exactly ready for success this season. One of the team’s proven skill players, wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, was traded just before the deadline. Pete Carroll has continued to back Geno Smith in spite of his inconsistent play.
Before returning to the NFL, Kelly had just won a national title at Ohio State. Prior to joining the Raiders and Ohio State, he served as head coach of UCLA from 2018 to 2023. Before his one season with the 49ers, he was the head coach of the Eagles from 2013 to 2015.
Kelly’s greatest notable coaching accomplishment was being named head coach at Oregon following two years as offensive coordinator. Under his leadership, the Ducks won the Rose Bowl in 2011 and the Fiesta Bowl in 2012.
